Md Zia Sadique - Advisor

Md Zia Sadique is an advisor to the Knowledge Hub Institute (KHI). He is an Associate Professor in Health Economics at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). He holds a PhD in Economics from City University, London, an MSc in International Health Policy from the London School of Economics, and an MS in Development Economics from the Australian National University.

His research focuses on economic evaluation using advanced methods, including machine learning for treatment effect heterogeneity, analysis of large clinical trials and administrative datasets, digital health technologies, cancer control, alcohol interventions, and health economics in humanitarian crises. He has led health economics for numerous NIHR-funded trials (e.g., Oxy-PICU, FIRST-ABC, UK-ROX, REMAP-CAP) and has received over 19 research grants from NIHR, MRC/DfID/Wellcome Trust, EDCTP/EU, and others. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as The LancetJAMANEJMHealth Economics, and Value in Health.

Dr Sadique is an experienced teacher and module organiser, having delivered short courses on economic evaluation to policymakers and researchers in the UK, Uganda, and Bangladesh. He serves on the NIHR HTA Clinical Evaluations and Trials funding committee and provides methodological support to NICE, ICNARC, and international organisations, including BRAC University and the International Rescue Committee.

Rafat Alam - Advisor

Rafat Alam is an advisor to the Knowledge Hub Institute (KHI). He is an Associate Professor of Economics at Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton, Canada, where he teaches a wide range of courses, including development economics, environmental economics, international trade, and project evaluation.

Dr Alam holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Ottawa, with specialisations in environmental economics, natural resource economics, and international trade. His research spans biodiversity conservation, trade and the environment, energy transition, and the economic impacts of public policy. Over the last three years (2023–2025), he has built an active international research collaboration with the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), a leading policy think tank in Bangladesh, contributing to working papers on energy transition and power sector reform. He has led multiple Canada-funded market entry studies for SMEs in Cambodia, Myanmar, the Lao PDR, and Bangladesh, and has co-authored Canadian editions of principles of economics textbooks (McGraw-Hill Ryerson). His peer‑reviewed work has appeared in journals such as Environmental Economics and Policy Studies and the Journal of Applied Business and Economics.

Beyond research, Dr Alam has held significant leadership roles, including President of the MacEwan University Faculty Association (GMUFA, 2019–2023) and faculty representative to the MacEwan Board of Governors. He developed experiential learning courses, supervised numerous undergraduate research students, and served on university‑wide academic governance and hiring committees, including the Presidential search committee
